My career path has been unconventional – I’m part finance strategist & troubleshooter and part entrepreneur.
I’ve extensive strategic, financing & investments experience (on the ground in Africa; and Washington & London-based coverage of Africa, Eastern Europe, Asia, Caribbean).
- Built and led highly-capable, collaborative, diverse & curious finance and investment teams covering 12+ countries;
- Advised senior management & boards on framing, structuring and financing their strategic vision;
- Led financial analysis, multi-year forecasting & planning and cashflow management; and
- Analysed & improved workflows and implemented rapid change to increase resilience.
Collaborating with project sponsors and entrepreneurs, I have also developed and launched my own ventures and advised/supported others.
I’ve augmented hands-on experience with ongoing learning & professional certifications: I hold the AICPA Chartered Global Management Accountant (CGMA) designation; and I am a CIMA Fellow and Member in Practice. I also hold the Institute of Chartered Accountants Corporate Finance Qualification and am an alumnus of the University of Maryland and London Business School.
Strategic Finance Experience
I’ve served on financial institution management & investment committees; led investor and creditor-led corporate rescues; navigated through hyperinflation; and been a strategic finance advisor. My clients have included corporates and project developers/sponsors as well as development finance institutions, NGOs and the public sector.
I’ve been fortunate to work on complex projects in energy, telecoms, transportation, mining, industrials, agribusiness and health as well as some interesting initiatives in leisure and conservation.
Taking risks as an entrepreneur, I understand the rollercoaster ride – personally felt the pain of negative cash flow, decisively shut down my own startups yet also profitably sold my own business and helped save other businesses that were technically insolvent. I’ve gained a healthy respect for failure and its contribution to my own lifelong learning journey.
Today, I operate as fractional CFO and sustainability finance strategist in sustainability & climate technology while volunteering time to things I care about.
